News@8pm: iPad 2 pictures and Nintendo 3DS event

Apple iPad on your Christmas list? Well you may just be interested in pictures rumoured to be that of the iPad 2. Showing off a smaller 7-inch display, we imagine it's a fake but you can judge for yourself here. In other Apple tablet news, the iPad is set to get Kinect style motion-sensing controls dock which should breathe a little more life into the current iPad model. The Nintendo 3DS, tipped to be one of 2011’s hottest pieces of tech, is set to get an outing at a 3DS event on January 19th, when we hope to finally find out some UK launch details.

Tablets are set to be high on the 2011 agenda, and it looks like the HP Palmpad could be the latest tablet device to land with three models expected to show up at CES in a few weeks time. With Motorola’s tablet offering also set to be unveiled in Vegas, Apple looks set to inherit some serious tablet rivals in the next twelve months. Remember you can keep in touch with events in Vegas with T3's dedicated CES 2011 website.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has surpassed $1 billion worldwide sales, but it's not all good news for those CoD-making chaps with yet another Black Ops patch now available for disgruntled PS3 gamers. In other gaming news, the return of the sack boy and girls has been confirmed as LittleBigPlanet 2 for the PS3 gets dated again.

In app news, Sony Ericsson LiveView official Android apps have been revealed, allowing users to master their phone's power from the new clip-on LiveView accessory. All the official Android Market apps can be seen here. It's good news for iPhone camera fans too as the Camera+ iPhone app returns the Apple App Store after a brief absence due to breaching Cupertino’s strict terms of service.

iPad Mini spied?

Steve Jobs might hate 7-inch tablets, going as far as to say users would need to “sand down their fingers” for them to be any good. But that’s not stopped the iPad Mini bandwagon rolling, with a new snap purporting to show the slimmed down version in the wild.

The shot, seen here, shows Taiwanese racing driver Jimmy Lin apparently holding an iPad Mini in one hand, with a regular iPad in the other. The small version is certainly packing iOS, or a variant of it, but beyond that it’s unclear if this really is an Apple prototype.

Of course, rip off versions of the iPad are hardly difficult to come by. And with Jobs so dismissive of 7-inch slates, surely this one’s a fake.

What do you reckon? The real deal or a well put together homage to Apple’s tablet? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

News@8pm: Gran Turismo 5 update and PSP Phone dated

Sony Ericsson launches haven't been the biggest crowd draws or excitement starters in recent years but that could all be set to change as news hits of two upcoming SE arrivals that will get tech lovers in a twist. First off is the Sony Ericsson 16-megapixel camera phone that has leaked via FCC images with a massive snapper inbuilt. Following on from this and the PSP Phone or Sony Ericsson Z1 is back with news of a April launch to follow a February Mobile World Congress unveiling. Fingers crossed these reports produce the real deal.

Gaming updates land on a daily basis but today saw enhancements to two of the moments' biggest games as GT5 and Angry Birds for iPad both get a little something extra. Whilst the Angry Birds iPad Edition has added 15 new levels, Gran Turismo 5 has been on the receiving end of a massive 608MB update with new online gaming modes, rewards systems and online dealerships being added to the already giant game release.

Google's Android OS continues to take chunks out of every other facet of the mobile market but has suffered a day of mixed fortunes today. Whilst it was revealed that the HTC Wildfire is to finally be on the receiving end of an Android 2.2, FroYo, update, the launch of the first Android 2.3, Gingerbread, device, the Samsung made Google Nexus S, has been put back until, well, tomorrow, December 22nd.

CES 2011 tablets are already beginning to raise their heads despite the Consumer Electronics Show not kicking off until early next month. One such tablet to be teased early is the already demoed Motorola tablet. Used by Google's Andy Rubin to demo Android Honeycomb earlier this month, the Motorola tablet has been teased in a future of tablets video that, in a variety for the tech industry, is quite funny. Elsewhere on the CES tablet front and NEC is believed to be prepping an Android powered dual-screen tablet to launch in Las Vegas.

News@8pm: Internet porn to be banned and Facebook value

Internet porn ban is a concept that sounds almost farcical in its enormity but the Brisith government has announced it intends to force internet service providers to restrict all web-based pornography to an opt-in service in an attempt to prevent minors from exposure. Elsewhere in web land and on an equally grand scale, Facebook has today been valued at a reported $56 billion (£36 billion) a hefty sum only further eclipsed by predictions that this value will rise to $200 billion by 2015.

COD: Black Ops might well be close to two months old now but the first person shooter is still going strong today claiming top spot of the Christmas all format UK gaming charts, its fifth week atop the pile in six weeks since arrival. Looking to continue the popularity of the latest Call of Duty edition, developers Treyarch has announced the first Black Ops downloadable content that will launch on February 1st exclusively for the Xbox 360 bringing new multiplayer maps to the dominant game release.

Upcoming phone releases have been given a positive boost today as news landed that Samsung's Google Nexus S is to be on the receiving end of a tasty price drop ahead of launch as SIM-free price tags have more than £100 snipped off prior to arrival. In other smartphone news, Nokia is rumoured to be preparing Windows Phone 7 touting handsets for launch with the Finnish company having instigated talks with Microsoft over use of the mobile OS.

Tablets and eReaders are expected to be atop many a Christmas wish list this year with the iPad expected to take top honours. The many new iPad owners milling around in January looking for content are expected to receive a Daily offering from media mogul Murdoch as News Corp's upcoming iPad paper readies for a January 17th arrival. On the eReader front Sony has declared that its latest batch of electronic books "will sell out around the world" in the final Christmas shopping push.

Sony Reader "will sell out around the world"

Never one to be outdone by big time rivals, Sony has come out and claimed that its e-readers are likely to sell out “around the world” in the final run-up to Christmas.

The words echo Amazon’s claims last week, which saw the online store say it had sold “millions” of Kindles since it released a new, cut-price model earlier this year. With the ipad also flying off shelves, it seems Sony doesn’t want to be left behind.

Sony also said that the Reader Touch had been outselling the Reader Pocket, that despite a much heftier price tag for the former. It seems Sony wants to deflect all the e-reader buzz around Amazon’s bargain bucket offerings.

Nintendo 3DS cartridges may have up to 8GB?

Rumours are abound surrounding the upcoming and anticipated 3D gaming console, the Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS is rumoured to have 8GB cartridges which will be manufactured by Taiwan-based company Macronix.

The 3D gaming console which can be played without glasses is rumoured to be slapped with a 2GB limit on DS games, so it may be some time yet before we see 8GB Nintendo 3DS games on the shelves.

However, if true, an 8GB cart could mean that gamers can hope for more eventually. Nintendo has yet to comment on the rumour.

The Nintendo 3DS which is expected to launch in the UK in March 2011 was shown off at E3 2010.

However, with T3 receiving a Nintendo invite for an event in Amsterdam on 19 January 2011, we might have more news soon.

Do you think this rumour about the 8GB carts is true? Let us know if you have any thoughts over on T3's Twitter and Facebook feeds and stay tuned for more updates.
