PSP Go Price Slashed To $200 In The US And Japan

Sony just cut ¥10k discount on the price of the PSP Go in Japan (effective Tuesday). That brings the price down to ¥16,800 or right around $200--a more reasonable price point, Sony has already played with this in the US for a while. A quick search online shows a $199 listing on Amazon and GameStop, while Sony's US PlayStation site still has ones listed at $249.99. That will probably change any minute now.

Update: U.S. price cut confirmed.

Reckless Racing Review (iPhone)

Developed by Swedish company Pixelbite and only a few days ago was released by EA and Polarbit, Reckless Racing is a game that we've been following since it was known as "Deliverace" at the beginning of this year--and frankly, there was a spell where we had gone so long without hearing anything about it that we had kind of assumed that the great-looking project was cancelled.

Fortunately, that wasn't the case-it is now available on the iPhone, iPad and Android--, so we decided to take it for a quick spin. After all, top-down racers dhaven't really made much noise since the heady days of R.C. pro-am and lasting arcade favorite Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road ... and after playing Recklessly Racing for just a few minutes, we're not sure why that is.

Simply put, these guys put together a stellar game that immediately put a smile on your face from the moment you fire. The ironic Hillbilly theme (complete with bluegrass background music) is a good start, but more importantly, the control and gameplay are simple and immediately engaging with very little processing time. Reckless Racing allows you to choose between some five different styles: standard (rotate buttons on the left, in front of the accelerator and brake on the right), tank (gas is automatically applied, rotate buttons in both corners), Tilt, and both half and full wheel (drag the wheel to switch). We found we were quickest and most agile in the tank mode, but your mileage may vary. You'll probably spend most of your time playing a single-player mode Dirt Rally where you compete against five CPU-controlled cars in three levels of difficulty (along with two levels of difficulty of steering wheel), but you also have the Hot Lap and Delivery mode. Hot Lap is a simple solo mode where you're just trying to get the best time, but Delivery is quite interesting: the idea is to pick up packages around the course and deliver them as soon as possible to various destinations. It is pretty funny, and the special delivery course is complicated enough to keep you on your toes.

The graphics are pristine-it looks seriously amazing on the display of the iPhone--and it runs smooth as silk without a hiccup to find, but we have a few complaints. Firstly, there is no Game Center support; that is probably partly due to the fact that it is a cross-platform game and development started before Game Center was even announced, but Reckless Racing format really lends itself to the Game Center multiplayer matchmaking capacities and performance tracking (such as it is now, the game has no performance of any kind). Secondly, there is no vehicle damage; if you're in a wreck or you get stuck, you just respawn (and there is a special button in the upper-right corner to respawn manually if you want to). Given the on-course barriers and the ever-present danger of coming into contact with the competing cars, the damage would be a nice complication. Also, there are not any power-ups or upgrades--we kept looking for Super Off Road-style nitro bottles, but no luck.

All that said, Reckless has proven that the top-down size is brilliant on the phone with a touchscreen display. We would like to see more than five rally courses (ten, if you reverse the unlockable courses count)--but we would recommend that is a good problem to have, because it just drives home the point that this is already a gas to play and at $2.99, it's a steal.

Samsung Galaxy Beam Projector Smartphone Lit Up Miners Lives

Samsung Galaxy Beam projector smartphone helped to light up the lives of the Chilean miners

You heard the one about the captured Chilean miners? Turns out they were a bit under the weather. But seriously folks, living in a cave for a few months is not fun, and fortunately those guys had a crew of support people send down all kinds of toys. One of those toys, we now learn, was a Samsung Galaxy Beam Android projector phone, loaded with a "message of encouragement" from Chile's mining minister along with a recording of an exhibition soccer game between Chile and Ukraine (previously we were told it was beamed down via fibre optics). We have to admit feeling the smallest pang of envy, because down there is one of the few places where a six lumen pico projector is more than bright enough.

The 3D mobile phone lands in India for $ 97, no glasses required

It's not every day that you come across a autostereoscopic 3D mobile phone launch, let alone for less than $100 (RS. 4,299). But that's exactly what the Spice Mobile company just announced in India. The M-67 3D phone features a 2.36-inch 240 x 320 pixel display with special 3D shortcut key to let users switch between 2D and 3D display modes for the user interface, graphics, and video. This dual-SIM phone is unfortunately only equipped with a 2D camera, not one of these 3D jobbies that are cooked up by Sharp. We recommend that at this price it is not the viewing experience of the Nintendo 3DS, but it's certainly a harbinger of things to come.

Newest Gadgets - Samsung to unveil new Android device

Two weeks. That's how long you should wait before Samsung Mobile officially shows off her latest Android device. We say officially, as these things go, there is a chance that the gadget will make it into the spotlight through unofficial channels. No clue what it would be, but if we had our say, the Continuum and its secondary OLED-screen would make for a nice treat ...

Top gadgets - Notion Ink Adam tablet founder claims 15+ hours battery

Pixel Qi and Tegra 2-packing Notion Ink Adam has long been one of our favorite pieces of perfectly plausible vaporware, but founder Rohan Shravans has just made a pretty fantastic claim - he says he is getting a minimum of 15 hours of battery life from his personal tablet and calculates you get up to 20 with the 24Wh, potentially user-replaceable battery nestled in the frame. While the figures for the $498 transflective version of the Tablet PC and not the $399 juice-gulping LCD, they are still so stellar that they can easily create Adam's sales depending on their accuracy. Oh Rohan, please do not let us down!

Robot lifeguard hits Malibu's surf beaches

A robot lifeguard named Emily (short for Emergency Lifesaving Integrated LanYard) has been seen on the exclusive surf beaches of Malibu in California this month, much to the dismay of the more traditional human model of lifeguard.

Emily has patrolled Malibu's Zuma Beach, with its inventor who claim that they are twelve times as fast as human rescuers.

Emily does not look like your "traditional" robot. Instead, she is a four-foot long, distance-controlled robot buoy. Emily is set to cost about $ 3,500 and also uses a sonar system that builds 3D maps of the surrounding water flows and is able to identify sounds associated with swimmers in trouble.

Robots surf!
47-year-old inventor Tony Mulligan claims that his latest creation can power through Malibu heavy whitewater breaking surf at more than 24 miles per hour. An achievement, as any would-be surfer that has tried paddling in heavy waves will know.

Mulligan previously ran a company called Advanced Ceramics Research, making unattended air vessels for the US Government. He sold that company to British Aerospace electronic systems for 14.7 million dollars in the summer of 2009.

Emily was later born from an original project back in late 2009 to build a small remote control boat to check for marine life at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
Mulligan's new startup is an Arizona-based company called Hydronalix, production of new technology concepts for maritime robotics.

Human lifeguard hits back
Those pesky old fashioned ' human ' models of lifeguards are a threat to the robot.

"This is a classic example of an inventors idea of solving a problem that does not necessarily tie together with reality," according to the President of the United States Lifesaving Association, Chris Brewster, who also points out that Emily would be of no use to an unconscious swimmer or surfer.

ASUS officially walks away from Garmin-Asus partnership

ASUS walks away from Garmin Chalk another one up to the rumor mill. Just as we had heard, the Garmin-Asus partnership will soon no longer be. After a couple of demonstrably brave attempts to break into the Smartphone market, it seems as though Asus is running away in hopes of finding greener grass elsewhere. According to Reuters, Asus has an unnamed official confirmed that it would "ends its mobile phone cooperation agreement with Garmin." We expect the rest of the break-up details to roll tomorrow, but honestly, would you turn the other cheek and move on? But we both know that doesn't happen, right?

Apple iPod touch 32 GB (4th Generation) - Newest Gadgets

See friends while you talk to them with FaceTime. Shoot, edit, and share stunning HD video. Play games against friends, or unknown foes, with the new Game Center. And do it all on the Retina display--the highest-resolution screen on any mobile device. It makes graphics and text look even more amazing. The new iPod touch. It's state-of-the-art fun.

Introducing the new iPod touch. Now with FaceTime, Retina display, HD video recording, and Game Center. Click to enlarge.

Advanced engineering at play.

Pioneering technology built into iPod touch is how you're able to flick, tap, and pinch. It's what makes a racing game feel so real in one of the newest gadgets from Apple. It's why you're able to see a friend crack up at your jokes from across the globe. And it's the reason iPod touch is the most incredible iPod you'll ever own.
Looks can be amazing.
iPod touch has an all-new design that makes it the thinnest, lightest, most amazing iPod touch ever. Holding one is all the proof you need. With its curved design, iPod touch is now a mere 7.2 millimeters thin. Its engineered-glass front and stainless steel back feel sleek and smooth in your hand. Turn it on, and you're instantly blown away by the brilliant Retina display. iPod touch is the perfect combination of stunning design and revolutionary technology--brilliant from the outside in.
Retina display. A blast from the future.
There are lots of reasons you won't want to take your eyes off the new iPod touch. The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display, for one. It packs 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution iPod screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small--a mere 78 micrometers across--that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. Even though you can't see them, you'll definitely notice the difference. Text is remarkably sharp, and graphics are incredibly vivid.
Apple A4 processor. More power to you.
The Apple A4 chip is behind, or rather underneath, all the fun you can have on iPod touch. Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPod touch can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life. And fun.
Gyro + Accelerometer. Smooth moves.
iPod touch just learned some new moves. It now includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, the gyro makes iPod touch capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: more motion gestures and greater precision for an even better gaming experience.
Two cameras. Double the fun.
iPod touch captures video with two built-in cameras. It shoots amazing HD 720p video from the back camera. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful footage even in low-light settings. All while the built-in microphone records conversations, music, or any audio at the same time. And on the front of the iPod touch, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits. It's surprising how much fun can fit into something so small.
Multi-Touch. Control at your fingertips.
When you put your finger on the iPod touch, how does it just start doing what you want it to do? It's a chain reaction, really. The Multi-Touch display layers a protective shield over a capacitive panel that senses your touch using electrical fields. It then transmits that information to the Retina display below it. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, zoom in and out on a section of a web page, and control game elements precisely.

FaceTime comes to iPod touch. Don't just say hello. Smile.

Tap for a more instant instant message.
Take "LOL" to the next level and actually see friends laughing out loud. Or bring "XOXO" to life when you blow someone a kiss from miles away. FaceTime on iPod touch makes it possible. FaceTime works right out of the box--just enter your Apple ID and email address. Or create a new email account just for FaceTime. Using FaceTime is as easy as it gets. Say you want to start a video call with your best friend over Wi-Fi. Just tap the FaceTime app and find her entry to start the call. An invitation pops up on her iPod touch or iPhone 4 screen asking if she wants to join you. When she accepts, FaceTime begins. It's all perfectly seamless. And it works in both portrait and landscape. See how much fun you can have.

See friends while you talk with FaceTime, or play games against friends or unknown foes with Game Center.
Two cameras make either side its fun side.
iPod touch has two built-in cameras, one on the front above the display and one on the back. The front camera has been tuned for FaceTime. It has just the right field of view and focal length to focus on your face at arm's length. So it always presents you in the best possible light. Which is particularly handy when you're talking to someone who's more than just a friend.
The back camera. See and share.
So your roommate had to work late and couldn't make it to the concert. You can share the encore with a FaceTime call. As the band takes the stage and starts playing one of her all-time favorite songs, just tap a button. And before the lead singer can belt out his first note, iPod touch switches to the back camera and to the sure-to-be-legendary performance. Another tap switches to the front camera and to you. Simple, fast, and fun.

HD video recording comes to iPod touch. Ready, and action.

Built-in editing gives video a fun-tuning.
No need to wait until you're back at your computer to edit video. With basic editing built into iPod touch, you can get right down to business. Just drag to select start and end points on a filmstrip. Keep only the parts of the video you want, and turn it into something you and your friends will watch again and again.
Make mini blockbusters in just a few taps with iMovie on iPod touch. Say you're on an amazing road trip, and you want to create a video postcard of everything you've seen and done. Just use the iMovie app--pick it up in the App Store for just $4.99. Built for iPod touch, iMovie lets you combine and edit video clips, give them that extra something with dynamic themes and transitions, add music and photos, and share your finished movies with the world.
Make a movie. Starring you.
The next time you venture out on, say, an amazing hike, don't just tell your friends about it. Show them. In addition to the high-definition camera on the back, iPod touch has a VGA-quality camera on the front--above the display--that lets you see yourself on the display while you record. It's perfect for turning the camera on yourself. No more guessing if you're in the frame or accidentally cropping yourself out altogether. So get ready for your close-up.
Shoot what you want. Share where you want. Ever find yourself in the middle of typing an email when you see something that words just can't describe? Just launch the camera and record on the fly. Then upload your HD movie directly to YouTube. Or select some video from the Camera Roll and attach it to a new email message, ready to send. Posting to your Facebook page or blog is also just a tap away. And you can easily sync all the video you shoot on iPod touch back to your Mac or PC.
Point and shoot.
An awesome view. A decked-out cupcake. Your dog looking unbearably cute. If you want to take a quick photo to upload to your Facebook page, either camera on iPod touch can also capture stills. Just tap on the screen to adjust exposure. Then post to Facebook and let the comments begin.

The new Game Center app on iPod touch lets you expand your social gaming network--exponentially.

Game Center. Way more than two can play that game.

Gamers rejoice. Game Center is here.
The new Game Center app on iPod touch lets you expand your social gaming network. Exponentially. All anyone needs to play is an iPod touch or iPhone running iOS 4.1. With iOS 4.1, you'll see a Game Center app on your Home screen. Just tap it and sign in with your Apple ID, and you're good to go. You can create a different nickname that will be visible to friends and the gaming community. You can also assign several email addresses to the Game Center app, making it easy for more friends to find you. Download any games you see by tapping links in Game Center. Games can be started right in the Game Center app. And the best part: Once you sign in to Game Center, you're always connected. Until you decide to sign out.
Friends. Soon to be opponents.
Bring your friends along for the ride. Or match. Or mission. Once you're signed in to the Game Center app, you can invite someone by sending a friend request using their nickname or email address. Your friends show up in a separate Friends list in the Game Center app. Tap on a friend's name, and you can see what games they've been playing. You can also check out pending friend requests you receive, and add as you see fit.
Leaderboards and achievements. Score some bragging rights.
Take a look at leaderboards and see how your score ranks against your friends, as well as all players of each game. You can also compare game achievements with your friends. Check out leaderboards and achievements in the Game Center app and in each individual game app. Let the smack talk begin.
Meet your match.
Say you want to get a multiplayer game going. Auto-match will prioritize your friends if they happen to be looking for an auto-match, too. Otherwise, it will set you up with a soon-to-be-friend from anywhere around the world. You can also choose to invite friends and have auto-match fill the number of players needed for a game.

Music. Let your fingers do the rocking.

Cover Flow. A work of album art.
What a song does for your ears, Cover Flow on iPod touch does for your eyes and fingers. Turn iPod touch on its side and glide through your music by album art with the flick of your finger. Tap an album cover to flip it over and display a track list. Tap again to start the music.
Genius playlists. From one great song comes an even greater playlist.
Say you're listening to a song you really love and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. Genius uses that song to find other songs in your library and makes a Genius playlist for you. Listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh it and give it another go. Count on Genius to create a playlist you wouldn't have thought of yourself.
Genius Mixes. The ultimate mix-master.
Genius acts as your personal DJ. All you do is sync iPod touch to iTunes, and Genius automatically searches your library to find songs that sound great together. Then it creates multiple mixes you'll love. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. It's a great way to rediscover songs you haven't heard in forever--and some you even forgot you had.

Let your fingers do the rocking.
Shake to Shuffle. And rock 'n' roll with it.
Shake things up a bit. Musically speaking, that is. The next time you're listening to your tunes, turn on Shake to Shuffle, then give iPod touch a shake to shuffle to a different song in your music library. It's just another way iPod touch keeps your music feeling fresh.
iTunes. That's entertainment.
Feed your iPod touch songs and music videos from your iTunes library on your computer. Or buy and download new music on your iPod touch when you access iTunes over Wi-Fi. Songs you purchase on iPod touch transfer to your Mac or PC the next time you connect iPod touch to your computer. And now with iTunes Ping, you can follow friends to find out what music they're listening to, buying, and recommending. Or catch up with your favorite artists and see if they're playing near you.
Bluetooth. No strings attached.
iPod touch includes support for Bluetooth wireless technology. So you can pair wireless stereo headphones with it. Keep your iPod in your bag or charging on your desk across the room and still listen to your music.

Movies + TV shows. Take the show, or movie, on the road.

The big screen. On the small screen.
With iPod touch, movie nights can happen anytime of day, anywhere you are. Carry hours of video with you and watch them on the amazing 3.5-inch color widescreen Retina display. Shop the iTunes Store and choose from thousands of movies, TV shows, and video podcasts to fill your iPod touch. From Hollywood blockbusters to indie favorites, there's something for everyone. Download and watch movies with a few taps. Prefer TV shows? Get a single episode or an entire season's worth all at once. With iPod touch, you can travel far and widescreen.
Control how you watch.
While watching your video, tap the display to bring up onscreen controls. You can play or pause, view by chapter, and adjust the volume. Or use the volume controls on the left side of the iPod touch. Want to switch between widescreen and full screen? Simply tap the display twice. It's just like your TV remote. Except you never have to fight over it.
iTunes. Keep yourself entertained.
Need some entertainment for your next flight or road trip? With iTunes on your iPod touch and a Wi-Fi connection, you can buy movies and TV shows on the fly. You can also rent shows for just $0.99 an episode, in case you're not sure if one is a keeper. And of course, you can also purchase movies and TV shows on your Mac or PC, then sync them to your iPod touch. Popcorn not included.

XpanD universal 3D glasses now available for pre-order

The lack of inter-brand compatibility is a big annoyance with current 3D glasses--not to mention they are against our fashionable couch potato aesthetic. Fortunately, the XpanD universal 3D glasses are finally available for pre-order on Amazon, even though there is no word about shipment dates. However, they are currently priced at $108, that is slightly less than the range of the $125-$150 quoted by XpanD Chief Strategy Officer Ami Dror last spring. That said, no surprise the price reduction could justify their PR place as "the most anticipated product in the history of 3D."

Apple resolves FaceTime for Mac security error, not your Wolverine complex

By Thomas Ricker Posted October 22nd 2010 4: 58

That was fast. The FaceTime for Mac beta vulnerability was shut down by Apple on the backend--an error making it possible for anyone with physical access to your machine will to reset and grab your iTunes store account password and security answer. So now, if someone was to click "view Account" on your desktop app while you were chillin' in the toilet in Starbucks or chatting away by the water cooler, the so-called thief would simply be returned to the FaceTime to the FaceTime account preferences window. At that time he would probably just slip your laptop...!!

HP Slate 500 Unicorns his way into e-tailers with product code

By Sean Hollister Posted October 21, 2010 8: 05
We heard the HP Slate finally got a date with destiny (and wallet) sometime this fall, and it's looking like a device, almost--a number of boutique online retailers are taking orders for the 500 HP Slate, which allegedly comes with an Intel Atom z550 CPU, 8.9-inch WSVGA LED-backlit display, 2 GB of DDR2 memory, a 64 GB solid state drive, 802 11 b/g/n WiFi, a webcam, a two-cell battery and Windows 7 Professional installed, all for somewhere around $ 800 to $ 900. What is more, CNET stumbled on a document that apparently says the same, plus, a HP Slate digital pen and a rear-facing 3-megapixel camera. We'd chalk up the CNET leaks to old prototype documentation and the e-tailer product listings to wishful thinking if either appeared on their own, but together we have to imagine there's some sort of wind a' blowing.

Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang Guitar Pro Test

Next week's Rock Band 3 launch marks a giant step for the franchise, with the Pro mode being closer to the actual musicality of gameplay. The keyboards and drums are easier to make transitions, having regard to what is essentially a mapping for notes and logical input solutions. But what about a guitar, arguably the genre flagship instrument? We've seen and tried two solutions to the pro Guitar puzzle: the Squier Stratocaster, an actual guitar that is not yet ready for prime time, and the Mad Catz Fender Mustang.

However, with a mid November release date, the latter is probably your only option for Pro Guitar rocking this holiday. So, how does it rate? Read on and find out!

PS for all your other Rock Band 3 queries, check out the Joystiq full review!

The controller itself is similar to the fender surf body popular amongst the lifelike-Mustang (of course) and the Jaguar guitars. The peripheral equipment is much lighter than a real guitar, but fortunately the neck is almost the same height and width as our personal Stratocaster. Every fret and each string is represented by a vertical button, all representative for the actual fret, but all of equal width (more on that later). On 17 frets, which add to more than 100 buttons--a lot of gamers used to only five.
Buttons are not limited to only those frets, of course. The pickguard has the typical gamepad face buttons and there is a directional pad below, as well as a Guide button, starting and back/select buttons, sync and the necessary mic/camera for automatic calibration. There is also the MIDI-out port, a handy must have , you can get a MIDI track--synth, there are six identical heavy-gauge steel strings on the body. They are long enough to easily find mid-song, although they might be a pain if you're used to playing closer to the neck.

The General construction--which can be broken down into the component of head, neck and body components--feels lightweight and border-flimsy at times, but to be honest, it is held up remarkably well during our time with it and we have no reason to suspect that the else could do.

We have gone thorough the detail about how Pro Guitar works on the software side of Rock Band 3, for better and for worse, so for this review we largely focus on how the hardware feels. And, as we have alluded to before, it's kind of a hassle if you are used to a real guitar. Given the different width of real guitar strings, it is much easier to tell what frets we're pressing  (and which strings we finger-picking) on a real instrument without having to look down. Here, each string, and the button is a uniform width, so that everything feels the same against your skin. We can definitely get used to this over time, it's more of a nuisance than anything, but it's certainly increases the learning curve and detracts from enjoying the instrument.

Another annoyance that we noticed is the overall sensitivity of the buttons--it doesn't take much to operate, even if you are not using Light touches, resting your finger against an unused series, can lead to a note that would otherwise be considered a damper. Maybe we are nitpicking here by comparing the Fender Pro to a real guitar, but there are definitely some little nuances to become acustomed to.

We'd be lying if we said that our view of the Mustang was not tainted by our previous time with the "real" Squier Stratocaster Guitar Pro, which is infinitely more comfortable even in prototype form. That is perhaps a bit unfair, and frankly, our Joystiq cohorts had a much more positive experience. Many people are going to love this rig, but at $ 150, we feel that it is our duty to warn you about this even before you shell out. While some of Mad Catz ' design decisions were a nasty experience at first, they never really detracted our general enjoyment of the game-or to put it another way, when the going got tough and we swore like a sailor, it was not the controller that was to blame.

Review: AMD Phenom II x 2 560 Black Edition

AMD is productive lately and the next in line are covered by our attention is the dual-core Phenom II X 2 560 Black Edition.

As a result of her work, AMD certainly has a lot of flavors of processor on the market these days, but if a gamer on a budget do you really need anything with more than two cores yet? There is still a lack of multithreaded titles that really take advantage of the wonders of the hex-core AMD has recently, so you can be forgiven for the sacrifice of cores for cash.

The boys and grip on AMD of course understand that since the company enhance its dual-core lineup with another Black Edition processor, now hitting the 3. 3 GHz character. We've already seen the Phenom II x 2 550 and 555 chips, which managed 3. 1 GHz and 3.2 GHz respectively.

Quite why we need another is CPU with such a small incremental increases quite outside us. sure it's a Black Edition, with all the unlocked multiplier joy that this entails, but then so was the 3.1 GHz 550. why push it further?

Review: Onkyo HTS-3305

Onkyo has an excellent reputation for its AV receivers. And here we have the HTS-3305 which aims to leverage this accumulated experience: a budget yet fully-fledged AVR, packaged with a matching sub-sat 5. 1 speaker set.

Royale connections include a choice of three v1. 4 HDMI inputs, in addition to the provision for analog composite and component sources. There is no conversion of analog video on HDMI, so you may have to route appropriate physical wiring to your display. There are also front panel or 5.1 analogue inputs.

You are, but only blessed with an analog audio input, plus three digital audio-inputs, two of which are optical. Most of the ' all-in-one ' systems make provision for today the ubiquitous iPod. this not, instead, the provision of a universal port of type you click the "default" Onkyo a/v receivers. In this, you can plug in an optional iPod dock or DAB tuner.

If an AVR the speaker connections are pretty standard, compared to what you see on the back of an all-in-one system. Binding post terminals are provided for the fronts, while the surround speakers are connected by means of spring clips.Another set of such terminals suitable for a second series of loudspeakers, possibly in a second room for the root zone 2 functions.

The only downside is that the main unit (the HT-capacity) is designed for use with a passive subwoofer-in other words, the amplifier is built into the receiver, instead of the sub itself. This doesn't have to be a problem; Some subs can be driven on speaker-level, although the fact the HT-capacity is already delivering an LFE signal can pose (another possible solution would be to drive an active sub line input via a resistive attenuator).

Fortunately, crossover frequency are adapted from 40 Hz to 200 Hz in the menus. The satellite speakers all service a single magnetically shielded 3.15in drive, unlike the separate crossover-linked tweeter and woofer of more upmarket sub-sat packages.

The bundled bass-reflex subwoofer, meanwhile, includes a 6.5-inch driver mounted in a down-firing position. All connecting cables are supplied.

Just like the average AVR provides the HT-capacity in a wide variety of codecs and surround audio formats. There is also a selection of 11 DSP-variants, including modes optimized for gaming.

The HDMI ports support CEC device control and doing, I would adjust the receiver volume with our external;Samsung TV'sechter, Onkyo remote not working my Samsung Blu-ray disc player or TV. AV input on the TV would change also input on improving as a source of annoyance, for example, the TV is switched to the PC Input, if you go to a CD via Onkyo rig is listening.

The last-used source routes an HDMI passthrough feature automatically to the TV when the receiver is in standby.

Performance
In terms of performance gasps of Onkyo HTS-3305 system far beyond her weight. it does a lot more right to Blu-ray (and even DVD) than the average all-in-one-system, with balanced and sonics who are not of the steam in an average size space, especially in the most important LFE Department run out.

Having regard to the single disk units of the satellites, a surprising degree of treble detail is transferred, also separates a fully-fledged. Versus system, though, are there any restrictions.
When driven hard, presentation pushes to the aggressive, and while the center channel performs very well in General-dialog always understandable – some bassier vocals suffer a small 'plummy ' discoloration.

That'a a small gripe, though, and this system even comes highly recommended for those who are on a tight budget.

Review: Apple TV

Apple TV has dumped its 40 GB of storage, three quarters of its footprint and the UK price cut in half. And Steve Jobs continues to refer to it as a "hobby".

Maybe it's because Apple TV remains something of an enigma. It does not fit into Apple main product groups – on apple.com that it filed under ' iPod ' in the category structure.Again, on the one hand, that Apple seems to want to shove it under the carpet, on the other hand it keeps inventing the device. it would not even write to us for review, such Apple's nonplussed attitude relative to the bounding shape.

We are already positive — Apple TV is a darn good media box and use it with your Mac with iTunes more specific, and its price has reduced significantly – even if you have a shadow over £ 60 for this box in the US would pay-and that's a big saving and a great shame.

But Apple TV has two big problems.

The first has to do with the United Kingdom. In the US is the box compatible with Netflix, video on demand television programs and movies offer for a fee. In the United Kingdom there is no such service is available for the box. LoveFilm would be an obvious partner, but it hasn't happened yet. However, iTunes rental are available for £ 3.49 for HD movies, £ 2.49 for SD-you have 30 days to start watching and then 48 hours to finish after you have clicked to rent.

The second major problem is that the Apple TV has only 720 p HD-the lack of 1080p support remains appalling and really marks the Apple TV as a stepchild to other streaming media boxes such as the WD TV Live – even if, as you'll see, the Apple TV a more polished user experience.

So what has changed? The back of the device now only has HDMI for video, optical audio and Ethernet, although 802.11n wireless networks is built in. Dumping of other video inputs makes sense, although it will annoy some like the lack of phono audio outputs.

Because of their small size and weight of the box-it fits in your hand-can hook up the cables you tip up. this box is technically excellent for the money-it's Apple's new A4 processor inside.

The box works seamlessly with iTunes 10 install with Home sharing is enabled-the synchronization is performed using your Apple ID. we were unable to test of Apple TV with new AirPlay-technology of the company in iOS 4.2, if it has not yet been released, but by november you should be able to directly stream video to Apple TV, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad on the same network so you look at something on your iPad would, pause, and the whizzing with your LCD TV in a jiffy.

The new aluminum Apple remote is supplied with the Apple TV, you can also control of Apple TV with Apple Remote app available for iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. Apple TV streams also content from YouTube, Flickr and MobileMe.

Nokia N8 goes on sale in United Kingdom

The Nokia N8 sounded is finally gone on sale, with the new flagship Horn of the Finnish phone giant available from £ 429 sim free.

Nokia may not have gotten the five-star Nokia N8 revision it was hoping for, but her loyal fanbase is asking for the Symbian ^ 3 handset.

The long wait is over, now with the N8 now available at the Nokia store and of the networks.

Carl Zeiss Optics
The Nokia N8 brings an impressive 12Mp camera with Carl Zeiss Optics, HD video and the well-received Ovi Maps turn-by-turn navigation.

Summed up the phone, TechRadar phones editor Gareth Beavis said: "the Nokia N8 is a tricky one to assess: it's a phone which is very good with the Nokia fans will do, if it is easily the best Symbian device ever created ...

"But for the smartphone user that at the end of their first Android or iPhone and think of a change, it might be less of a joyful experience."

Review: Sony Bravia KDL-40EX43B

We have definitely seen some interesting combos in the past: video recorders with hard drive recorders onboard surround, TV with built-in DVD-players, and iPod-ready melons. Okay, maybe we have the last time up.

Lets get back to the solid realms of the reality, however, of Sony KDL-40EX43B, with which the DVD/TV-concept is updated by combining a smart-looking 40in LCD TV with a Blu-ray player.

This CCFL-backlit display full HD TV also features a free HD tuner and a network multimedia (Bravia Internet Video and DLNA playing), and so it's no slouch when it comes to other functions.
The vertically mounted disc player, which, of course also compatible with DVDs and CDs, lurks behind the screen and is slot-loading. As a result, it doesn't spoil the minimalist lines of the set cabinets. Indeed, you don't even know that it's there, unless you're looking for it.

Other goodies include supply of Sony Bravia Engine 3 image processor, a PC VGA/D-sub input and various energy-saving features (such as an ambient light sensor and a radio mode which temporarily closed on the screen). There's an analog tuner, but the chances are that it will never be used.

The Blu-ray player gives you most of the functionality that is associated with a well-designed budget unit – such as BD-Live compatibility and reasonably fast loading disks. Apart from the BD-Live, there are no fancy network features – this do, after all, are covered by the TV section of own command.

Note that the platform of Bravia Widgets (a separate entity to Bravia Internet video, which currently includes Facebook, eBay, Flickr and Twitter) is not present on this specific set.

Also designed in the KDL-40EX43B is a USB port for connecting memory devices – or for multimedia playback, or offer a BD-Live temporary storage alternative to set own memory there is only one port, though, that makes life difficult if you go for the Wi-Fi dongle.

Analog connections include component and a few Scarts.Missing most of Sony's recent LCD screens have four 1080p24 HDMI v1.4 inputs. Not so the KDL-40EX43B, that only gives you three, two of which were side-mounted. I suspect that the Blu-ray player for missing bills.

The Blu-ray player element of TV is perfectly integrated into the Xross Media bar user interfacer. From here you can-in addition to drives – select internet TV content delivered and DLNA media servers with much the same ease as digital (and, come to think of it, analog) TV-channels.

The Xross Media bar is also required for each installation than the wizard-driven ' first-run ' phase. I had some problems getting the KDL-40EX43B to talk to my network via Ethernet. Although DLNA content accessible, were not Bravia TV-channels. If, as I did, you will get nothing more exciting than a "2200" error, press the reset button and repeat the TV network installation procedure should all good then.

In addition to such delights as Demand Five, FIFA characteristics, Dailymotion, Eurosport and YouTube, the BBC iPlayer is listed under the Bravia TV-channels. However, I could not force the software update required for programs (you're at the mercy of Sony here, because this task is performed automatically and through the assumably, ether unlike via the wiser network route).
I came across a number of other niggles, some of which are more serious than others. the number of formats that are supported by the DLNA media Player are limited to JPEG, MPEG2, MP3/WAV, although DivX/XviD clips can be powered via USB.

Samsung X 430 directed to Microsoft stores with a copy-free Windows crapware

We have a look at one earlier Korea bound notebook, the Samsung X 430 that Microsoft has operated as a "Microsoft Store exclusive". It is good enough equipment, both inside and outside, for the price. Also, because of its nature exclusive boutique, Microsoft also updated the "Microsoft Signature Image" here, which means a copy of Windows 7 completely free of crapware and specifically, even if Microsoft has developed a good amount of first advantage software you probably like Windows Live, Bing maps 3D and Microsoft security essential. If you're wondering "how Steve Ballmer would use this computer", signature image is pretty good response. $ 1,099, you get processor ULV Core i3, 310 M graphics GeForce, a hard disk 500 GB and a 14-inch WXGA screen. Our favorite part is probably just the sensation of premium for this device.

Microsoft spikes in the video player ranking

The various video sites from Microsoft to undergo a massive increase in the US, with the likes of Bing, and MSN push the software giant back to the fourth spot in the rankings.

Hands on: HTC HD 7 review

HTC is clearly showing its stall out phone with Microsoft on Windows 7, as it brought five sets of architecture. This, the HTC HD 7, has a UK release date of October 21. So what's fun?
The HTC HD 7 is by far the largest of them, with a wish HD and HD 2-matching 4.3-inch screen above the near-identical hardware specs of its other WP7 brethren.

In the hand feels a little giant-small hands can struggle to contain the heft, but fortunately it seems thin enough not to give the impression of a small netbook in your pocket.
The screen makes up most of the phone when on-apart from a narrow strip of glass at the bottom who loves the touch-sensitive buttons, this is very much on the screen, which makes sense when you consider how huge it is.

Our only gripe is that it is not an OLED-Samsung Omnia 7 the edge on the HD 7 on screen quality, and we have the vibrancy of that tech on this screen size would be held.
The 5MP camera on the back is a bit more tech-heavy than his brothers, offering a dual-led Flash that can also be used as a video light when capturing HD video at 720 p.

There is also an extremely playable-with kickstand on the back, propping up the phone if you want to look at things and you need your hands for something else.

We are told the kickstand power of above can take and safe will close than snap off. ... but we did not test that theory in the event that we are wrong.

The top power/lock button can be difficult to achieve if you are the teenier-handed race, but then again this phone might not be for you if that is the case – perhaps check out the HTC Mozart instead, which offers a sense also decent chassis with a more palatable screen size?

If the Windows Phone 7 experience is designed to be virtually identical on most handsets, we have done a thorough hands on review of the separately so you can see how the HTC HD 7 new fancy interface works:
Like her brothers, the HTC HTC hub that are part of the Taiwanese companies attempts to add some degree of alignment with the WP7 party, an HTC Sense-like experience to the HTC HD 7.
The HTC hub is hopeless/delicious over-engineered-every time you want to see again you have to fly through clouds for a second or two.

Notes is a cool application that allows you to post reminders to yourself, and if the post-it notes age on the virtual notice board, they are getting more and more crumpled.
The other cool application is Sound Enhancer-it really makes a difference to songs, although we found Dolby Mobile, rather than SRS Surround Sound, to be more effective for watching movies.

There are also other various applications pre-loaded on the HTC 7 Trophy, such as Photo Enhancer and stocks-HTC also provides a link to download fun stuff like the flashlight application for free.
So is the HTC HD 7 too big? O2 offers from 40 € per month on a two year deal if you want the handset free-and that's a lot to be commit wonga.

However, it is less than £ 400 on pay-as-you-go system, which is a more palatable option, especially if you might with a monthly contract of low-cost links.
We will be bringing you the full HTC HD 7 review soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that as we walk our expert on every nook and cranny of this phone, eyes and the new OS.
