Review: Onkyo HTS-3305

Onkyo has an excellent reputation for its AV receivers. And here we have the HTS-3305 which aims to leverage this accumulated experience: a budget yet fully-fledged AVR, packaged with a matching sub-sat 5. 1 speaker set.

Royale connections include a choice of three v1. 4 HDMI inputs, in addition to the provision for analog composite and component sources. There is no conversion of analog video on HDMI, so you may have to route appropriate physical wiring to your display. There are also front panel or 5.1 analogue inputs.

You are, but only blessed with an analog audio input, plus three digital audio-inputs, two of which are optical. Most of the ' all-in-one ' systems make provision for today the ubiquitous iPod. this not, instead, the provision of a universal port of type you click the "default" Onkyo a/v receivers. In this, you can plug in an optional iPod dock or DAB tuner.

If an AVR the speaker connections are pretty standard, compared to what you see on the back of an all-in-one system. Binding post terminals are provided for the fronts, while the surround speakers are connected by means of spring clips.Another set of such terminals suitable for a second series of loudspeakers, possibly in a second room for the root zone 2 functions.

The only downside is that the main unit (the HT-capacity) is designed for use with a passive subwoofer-in other words, the amplifier is built into the receiver, instead of the sub itself. This doesn't have to be a problem; Some subs can be driven on speaker-level, although the fact the HT-capacity is already delivering an LFE signal can pose (another possible solution would be to drive an active sub line input via a resistive attenuator).

Fortunately, crossover frequency are adapted from 40 Hz to 200 Hz in the menus. The satellite speakers all service a single magnetically shielded 3.15in drive, unlike the separate crossover-linked tweeter and woofer of more upmarket sub-sat packages.

The bundled bass-reflex subwoofer, meanwhile, includes a 6.5-inch driver mounted in a down-firing position. All connecting cables are supplied.

Just like the average AVR provides the HT-capacity in a wide variety of codecs and surround audio formats. There is also a selection of 11 DSP-variants, including modes optimized for gaming.

The HDMI ports support CEC device control and doing, I would adjust the receiver volume with our external;Samsung TV'sechter, Onkyo remote not working my Samsung Blu-ray disc player or TV. AV input on the TV would change also input on improving as a source of annoyance, for example, the TV is switched to the PC Input, if you go to a CD via Onkyo rig is listening.

The last-used source routes an HDMI passthrough feature automatically to the TV when the receiver is in standby.

Performance
In terms of performance gasps of Onkyo HTS-3305 system far beyond her weight. it does a lot more right to Blu-ray (and even DVD) than the average all-in-one-system, with balanced and sonics who are not of the steam in an average size space, especially in the most important LFE Department run out.

Having regard to the single disk units of the satellites, a surprising degree of treble detail is transferred, also separates a fully-fledged. Versus system, though, are there any restrictions.
When driven hard, presentation pushes to the aggressive, and while the center channel performs very well in General-dialog always understandable – some bassier vocals suffer a small 'plummy ' discoloration.

That'a a small gripe, though, and this system even comes highly recommended for those who are on a tight budget.
