Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3 update landing within weeks

Samsung Galaxy S owners are to begin receiving the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update within the week, new reports suggest.

With official word coming from Samsung’s Finnish website, the nation responsible for Nokia and Angry Birds has revealed that local Galaxy S touting smartphone users will finally receive the 2.3 OS overhaul around the middle of the month.

Confirming Samsung’s word, mobile network provider Three has revealed that its UK Galaxy S users will be privy to the Android update “in a couple of weeks.”

Having been posed the question “Any word on when the android 2.3 update is going to be out for the Galaxy S?” Three UK’s official Twitter feed, @ThreeUK, responded: “It's expected in the next couple of weeks but we cannot confirm a date.”

The Galaxy S launched last July to much acclaim, instating Samsung as a true force in the smartphone market, with the 1GHz, 4-inch Super AMOLED display touting device shifting more than 10 million units by the end of the year. Back in February Samsung officially unveiled the follow up to the Galaxy S, the Samsung Galaxy S II, a dual-core smartphone that is expected to land later this month or in early May.
