Intel’s clearly still smarting after Nokia’s momentous decision to ditch MeeGo, the open source OS it was making in conjunction with the chip maker. Indeed, Intel’s CEO didn’t mince his words when asked about Espoo’s decision to load up its phones with Windows Phone 7, eschewing MeeGo and deciding against a tie-up with Google Android.

During a conference call, Paul Otellini said, “I wouldn't have made the decision he made, I would probably have gone to Android if I were him. MeeGo would have been the best strategy but he concluded he couldn't afford it."
Warming to his theme, Otellini said Microsoft had simply offered to much money for Nokia to resist, suggesting that any Nokia Windows Phone 7 mobiles would struggle to stand out in a crowded market. "It would have been less hard [to stand out] on Android, on MeeGo he could have done it,” he said.
Otellini also said that Intel was looking for new MeeGo partners, claiming there was still an appetite for the stillborn mobile OS. “We will find another partner. The carriers still want a third ecosystem and the carriers want an open ecosystem, and that's the thing that drives our motivation.”
