Adobe: Motorola Xoom Flash support in "a few weeks"

News of the Motorola Xoom’s lack of Adobe Flash at launch has been widely greeted with snorts of derision. But now Adobe has hit back, saying an over-the-air update will bring Flash 10.2 to the Xoom in, “…the next few weeks”.

“Adobe will offer Flash Player 10.2 pre-installed on some tablets and as an OTA download on others within a few weeks of Android 3 (Honeycomb) devices becoming available, the first of which is expected to be the Motorola Xoom,” said the company’s Matt Rozen in an official statement.

Rozen goes on to talk up Flash 10.2’s credentials, saying, “We are aware of over 50 tablets that will ship in 2011 supporting a full web experience (including Flash support) and Xoom users will be among the first to enjoy this benefit.” That may well be the case, but first adopters are hardly going to flock to a device if one of its headline features is MIA at launch.

With the Xoom not due out until Q2 on these shores, chances are we’ll get the complete Flash 10.2 experience straight out of the box. But spare a thought for those across the pond who thought they’d be getting some Adobe action from the get go.
