Firefox more popular than Internet Explorer in Europe

Mozilla's Firefox browser has bumped Microsoft's Internet Explorer off the top spot in the popular browser stakes. According to market research firm StatCounter, Firefox now has 38.11% of the European market share for browsers, with Internet Explorer taking the silver at 37.52%.

StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen speculated that IEs fall to second place could be due to customer pilfering from Google: "This appears to be happening because Google's Chrome is stealing its share from Internet Explorer, while Firefox is mainly maintaining its existing share." said Cullen.

Google's Chrome browser took third place with 14.58% of the market, with Safari bringing up the rear both in Europe and the States.
