London Underground to give Wi-fi to 120 stations

By 2012, 120 London Tube stations will have Wi-fi hotspots, according to Transport for London.

The plans to roll out wi-fi to tube stations have gained momentum with the 2012 London Olympics around the corner.

The connection currently used by 16 stations' staff will be made available to the public as part of the first phase of this operation before further expansion.

Charing Cross is part of an ongoing trial, where passengers can avail of BT internet. However, wi-fi will not be available on the trains; just on the platform.

TfL is on the hunt for bidders in time to debut the underground wi-fi service by summer of 2012.
